TCMFF Picks & Plans: TCM Club Members

Thrilled to share that six members of our TCM Club are attending the TCM Classic Film Festival (TCMFF) April 21-14, 2022. With spouses as plus-ones, our group numbers eight. We’re looking forward to making new memories with long-time good friends at the festival.

A couple of club members have sorted out their must-see films and must-attend events for the festival. Here are their picks and plans. If you’re going to TCMFF look for us and say hi!

TCM Club Member Janine

TCM Club Member Janine: I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be back at the TCM Film Festival, live and in person. There are so many different things I want to experience that it’s hard to choose a favorite, but two rise to the top.

The first is 7th Heaven (Sunday at 7:30 pm). A silent movie with live musical accompaniment, which will bring a nearly 100-year-old picture into the here and now. That Eddie Muller will introduce it is an added bonus.

Second is Ben Burtt (sound engineer) and Craig Barron (visual effects) introducing The Flame and the Arrow (Saturday at noon). I have found them to be knowledgeable, engaging and, frankly, hilarious. They were a favorite of mine from the 2021 TCM virtual film festival.

TCM Club Member Jane

TCM Club Member Jane: Looking forward to the opening night preview of ET. It will be awesome to see it on the big IMAX screen with the flying bicycle scene. Can’t wait to see Spielberg and the original cast. I am also thrilled and hoping to see Warren Beatty and listen to his introduction of Heaven Can Wait

TCM Club Member and our Classic Couple Academy instructional designer Kim Andrews: The TCM Classic Film Festival app provides the ability to look at the entire schedule and mark items for my own personal schedule. It makes planning for the event very easy.

TCM Club Member Kim

My focus is on the guests and speakers rather than simply viewing the movies. So, essentially I picked my schedule based on that. Although I must admit my home state of Michigan had some influence (Lily Tomlin and Somewhere in Time). Here’s my line up:

Meet TCM
Opening Night Reception
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Lily Tomlin Hand & Footprint Ceremony
All of Me
Cooley High
Catch Them If You Can : A Celebration of the Great Movie Chase
Somewhere in Time
Letters from Hollywood: Inside the Private World of Classic American Moviemaking
Heaven Can Wait
Diner
Paper Moon
A Conversation with Piper Laurie
Closing Night Party
