Our Triangle TCMC members met virtually Sunday, April 2 and pondered over our favorite Springtime/Easter movies. As usual for our group, this was not a cut and dry subject. Aside from the standard movies made specifically for Easter, our knowledgeable group members discussed a variety of movies and remakes.

HERE’S A WRITE-UP ABOUT THE GATHERING FROM MEETING ORGANIZERS AND TCMC MEMBERS SHARON AND CAROLINE.

Here are some of the movies we love at this time of the year:

Ben Hur: Every version depicted of this General Lew Wallace classic is reverently deep and inspirational.  The 1925 version Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ starring Ramon Navarro took second place over the 1959 movie starring Charlton Heston.

Jesus Christ Superstar: We all love the original cast version. a timeless classic.

It is no surprise that the life and death of Joan of Arc during the “100 Years’ War” is portrayed in many versions from the 1916 silent film Joan the Woman, 1928’s Carl Theodore Dreyer’s masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc to current depictions.

Some favorite and wonderful movie musicals:

  • 1948’s Easter Parade with Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, Ann Miller and Peter Lawford
  • 1957’s April Love and Pat Boone’s hit song of the same name
  • 1937’s Maytime
  • 1942’s Holiday Inn
  • Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
  • Gigi covers all the seasons, albeit there are scenes in those movies that are problematic by today’s standards.
  • 1965’s The Sound of Music
  • 1939’s The Wizard of Oz

We decided overall, that there really are no movies we think about all year to just watch at Easter time. What we did talk about are the movies that we love that we will watch at that time of year, some being:

  • It Happened One Night
  • All About Eve
  • Bambi
  • The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer
  • Rear Window
  • A League of Their Own
  • Rear Window
  • You’ve Got Mail
  • Summertime
  • Harvey

Horror in Springtime? Well, there are two: The Innocents or Carnival of Souls anyone?

Looking forward to next time!
