Our TCM Club met on June 13 to discuss six movies that aired on TCM in June. Club member Liz served as guest programmer making the selections and facilitating the member discussion of the following classic movies.

  1. Sunday in New York (1964)
  2. The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
  3. The V.I.P.s (1963)
  4. Judgment at Nuremberg (1961)
  5. My Favorite Wife (1940)
  6. 36 Hours (1964)

As expected, club members came prepared, many having watched all six films. 36 Hours (1964) was new to some and garnered the most mixed reviews. Discussion of The Manchurian Candidate (1962) and Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) focused on the quality of the performances by exceptional rosters of actors and actresses in both films. Everyone noted the charms of always entertaining Sunday in New York (1964) and My Favorite Wife (1940). The V.I.P.s (1963) discussion centered on the compelling on-screen dynamics of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor as a couple whose marriage is disintegrating and Rod Taylor as businessman and Maggie Smith as his underappreciated assistant.

Two quick hours later the club meeting wrapped with everyone looking forward to our next film discussion in August.
