Our TCM Club met in May to discuss all things TCM Classic Film Festival 2021. Everyone was eager to discuss their experience attending the virtual festival programming airing on TCM and HBO Max.
Most of us tuned into the opening night showing of West Side Story (1961) and enjoyed the pre-film discussion with stars Rita Moreno, Russ Tamblyn and George Chakiris. Several enjoyed the restoration of film noir They Won’t Believe Me (1947), which included new footage. Princess Tam Tam (1935) was a favorite new discovery noted for showcasing the talent of Josephine Baker. Those who tuned in to the SF Sketchfest Table Read of Plan 9 from Outer Space noted how hilarious it was, especially preceding the actual 1959 film Plan 9 From Outer Space. And this is just a smattering of films discussed.
Everyone shared their favorite festival moments to include some new classic discoveries and beloved treasures. In all, TCMFF 2021 was both enjoyable and memorable for TCM Club members.
