TCM Club August 2021 Meetings

Our TCM Club met on August 8 to play classic movie-themed Jeopardy! Lexi was our host, having developed the custom Jeopardy game for the club. Topics tested club member knowledge of classic film titles, actors and actresses, movie characters and musical scores. We played several competitive rounds peppered with lively discussion of club members’ favorite movie moments.
On August 29, club member Sharon led a robust classic film discussion. Serving as our guest programmer for the month, Sharon selected six films that aired on TCM during the month of July for the group to watch:
- The Little Foxes (1941)
- Picnic (1955)
- Mildred Pierce (1945)
- Now Voyager (1942)
- BONUS: Gypsy (1962)
- BONUS, BONUS: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964)
A thorough researcher and engaging facilitator, Sharon shared trivia about each film as well as background on the lead actresses’ lives to inform the discussion, much of which centered on the presentation of mother-daughter relationships. With so much to explore in these selections, the club opted to continue the discussion of these six films at our September meeting where Sharon will take us through the impact of the musical scores in these classics.
