We return from a Classic Couple summer sabbatical to share an amazing experience running until August 6, 2023 at the North Carolina Museum of Art. The Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design special exhibition at NCMA organized by Julia Long displays the film and television work of Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter.

Included are Carter’s costume designs for Hollywood legends Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington, Chadwick Boseman, Eddie Murphy, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker. The NCMA exhibition displays more than 60 of Carter’s original garments, along with notes and sketches demonstrating her immersive process, dedication to historical research, and acute attention to detail.
